Gabi Wilson, better known by her stage name H.E.R., is a California-based American singer currently signed to RCA Records. She kept her identity hidden in the early years of her career as part of a gimmick to make her a mysterious figure.
H.E.R. was born and raised in California and has been involved in music since she was a child. In late 2017, she released ‘H.E.R.,’ a compilation album that received five Grammynominations, including ‘Best New Artist’ and ‘Album of the Year.’

H.E.R. was born Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson on June 27, 1997 in Vallejo, California to Kenny and Agnes Wilson. Her father, who was a member of a local California band called Urban Bushmen, was an early musical inspiration for her. Her mother was a native Filipino housewife. When she was younger, her parents nicknamed her Gabi.
She began learning and playing music at a young age, drawing inspiration from her father. She debuted at the Apollo Theatre in New York City when she was nine years old. It was one of her first public appearances in front of a large audience.

She also made an appearance on the ‘Today Show,’ where she played the piano for Alicia Keys. H.E.R. also performed with Alicia at the Grammy Awards when she was 12 years old. She also performed on shows such as ‘The Maury Pauvich Show,’ ‘Good Morning America,’ and ‘The View.’

Career
She went by the stage name H.E.R., which means ‘Having Everything Revealed,’ and made her comeback in late 2016 when she signed with the RCA Records label. She released her debut EP (Extended Play), titled ‘HER Vol. 1,’ with no prior hype or marketing.

Many other artists like Usher and Pusha T came in support of the EP and slowly it gained a strong buzz. Rihanna as well supported the album and she uploaded a clip on Instagram where one of EP’s track ‘Focus’ was playing in the background. The video received 5 million hits and the album gained further attention.
In 2017, she released ‘H.E.R. Vol 2‘, her sophomore EP, which was also executive produced by Kehlani, K Michelle, and Zhavia. One single from the album, ‘Say it Again,’ was especially successful, and the album peaked at number seven on the Hot R&B chart.
A few months later, she followed up her second EP with ‘H.E.R. Vol 2, The B Sides,’ which was a huge success. However, unlike the previous EP, it did not reach the top ten of many charts.
She released her fourth EP, ‘I Used to Know Her: The Prelude,’ in August 2018. When the EP was released by the label RCA Records, it sold quickly and made it to the US Billboard 200 chart, where it peaked at number 20.

She also performed her songs on tour throughout the United States. One of her most memorable stage performances was at the 2017 BET Experience Concerts in Los Angeles. She performed alongside major artists such as Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, Kid Kudi, and Khalid during the show.
She was 20 years old at the time and was making a name for herself in the industry with her soulful music mixed with contemporary hip-hop. Her songs’ lyrics mostly appealed to young people because they were about dealing with breakups and heartbreak.
H.E.R. released ‘I Used to Know Her: Part 2‘ in November 2018, which was another successful EP that charted on several American charts.
In October 2017 her debut compilation album ‘H.E.R., was released. The album included a selection of songs from her first two EPs as well as six new singles. It was her most successful venture to date, earning her five Grammy Award nominations, including ‘Best New Artist’ and ‘Album of the Year.’
